Meet the Blue Cockatoo!
She can be blue when she wants to...
Well, she's not really blue (unless she wants to be), but she's definitely a cockatoo. Her name is Kaelin, and she's the inspiration behind the name for my little corner of the beading world. She greets you with a "Hey Bird!"

Hi, my name is Lindsay Donaghe.

There are many segments of my life that won't be addressed on this site, such as my "day" job of working as a software developer for a corporate portal company; my other full-time career as a wife to a supportive, smart and loving husband and the mother of a three and a half year old, completely adorable, very intelligent and extremely rambunctious boy; my ownership of two cockatiels (since I was 12 years old) and a sweet shi-tzu dog (we already met Kaelin, my other loving pet); and my strong interests in capitalism and new developments in technology (for that, check out my hubby's website, Techstropia.com). Nope, none of that.

This site is my homage to my all consuming hobby (obsession?) called beadwork.

It all started when someone told me about this neato place on the web where you can bid on stuff like an auction. Two days later, I was an eBay expert, outbidding people at the last minute and enjoying the nice adrenaline rushes when I snatched the item from some novice bidder's fingers at 5 seconds till "Auction Closed". I don't know why I hung around the "Jewelry/Gemstones/Beads" section of eBay, except for the fact that I could get all these beautiful little colored pieces of glass for what seemed like nothing (of course, a lot of nothings eventually add up to several paychecks!). Soon, many money orders and blown allowances later, I was surrounded by all my conquests and had not a clue what to do with them. So, I started searching the internet and found a wealth of advice and inspiration.

I've been beading for about 3 1/2 years now, mostly "rope" and "spiral" style necklaces inspired by the instructions of that beading goddess, Ginke Root, along with many others (Emily Hackbarth and Carol Wilcox-Wells, to name a couple more). I have recently started using cabochons to create "mandala" style pendants, and will probably contiue experimenting along those lines for a while.

I have wanted to start this website for quite some time. I plan for it to be a way for me to share my beadwork with others as well as share the many resources and inspirational sites that I have come across in my beading career.

I hope to be creating some on-line beading tutorials soon that should present some techniques that I have "discovered" in my experimentation. These tutorials will be instructions for techniques I consider to be unique, meaning I've never found them in my research, but alas, "Nothing is new under the sun", so please let me know if anything I have claimed to be original is already well known!

I may also venture to offer some tips that seem to make my beadwork easier, though most of these these tips will probably be aimed at beginning beaders. I remember how it seemed hard to me to find basic information when I started (people tend to post their advanced techniques, since they're more likely to be original), and I'd like to encourage new beaders (as if you need much encouragement once you're hooked!).

I will be including several advertisements on the site in the future for on-line products or services that I use and enjoy. I can give personal testimony to any of the companies that I will advertise, and I highly recommend them.

Hope you enjoy the site. Look around, send me an email and let me know what you think. I'd love to hear from you.

Kaelin says, "Hello Bird" (she doesn't like good-byes!)
